HOW IMPORTANT IS LIVESTOCK ?
According to the stats in 2016 the percentage of agricultural land in India was 60%. Food is one of the basic necessity for humans.
Production of crop is closely related to livestock production. Livestock and its sub product manure are used and play an important role in crop production resulting in improved soil structure, fertility as well as water retention which improve energy and nutrient cycle.
Livestock is also used for transportation of goods, commodities and people. This transportation could be a source of income.
Livestock, when sold, boosts and strengthens the rural markets. It is an important mean of exchange between rural households and a significant contribution for a families' wealth and wellbeing.
In some cultures, animals are considered to be sacred and may not be consumed respective of their religious believes. Even though being illegal in India or legal in other countries, animals
play an important leisure role, being used for entertainment or income by betting, horse racing, cock fights, bull fights, or for hunting.
In short the conclusion would be that most of the people living in rural areas are directly and people living in urban areas are indirectly depended on livestock.
